BALNEÁRIO CAMBORIÚ, MARCH 18, 2026. WEDNESDAY: I picked up my ARRBOOK to jot down notes about the next film I want to produce, but it’s too hot in this coastal city in Santa Catarina. The ink in my fountain pen is more fluid than usual. I just stained my hand and wiped it on the page beside it.
The end of a cycle and the emptiness that follows
After finishing a creative project like the documentary Vinícius Atleta – When the Body Decides, which was not only a demanding edit but also the closing of a personal cycle—resulting from a year of self-discovery wandering through Southern Brazil—the question automatically becomes: what’s the next story?
The dilemma between what to tell and what to sell
I’ve already talked about this dilemma here on the blog. It’s a dichotomy between what I want to tell versus what you would like to watch.
That’s how art works in a free-market economy. I want to express myself, but I need your money. You want to be entertained, to be informed. So you look for a good cultural product to consume.
It’s one of the most complex planetary alignments. Everyone has their own world. Me, you, those around you, those around me.
We all have our own desires and intentions.
I make audiovisual work because it’s what I am. It’s what gets me out of bed. It’s what keeps me from becoming a still vegetable doing photosynthesis.
Then comes a second artistic dilemma. I still don’t know what I want to tell. And even less do you know what you expect from me.
We’ll only be sure when I release the next film on BIG LAGO. And if it doesn’t land, so be it. Move on to the next one.
Different experiences, the same work
The experience one of my films can provide will be different for each of us. For you, it might be sensory. Anxiety, joy, sadness, excitement, terror. (I’m even considering making a slasher.)
My experience, however, is different.
It’s fulfillment. It’s finally putting out what I feel in the most satisfying way possible.
I produce because I enjoy it.
You watch because it turned out good.
From source to streaming
The fact is, in this fluid ecosystem of our society, I am a spring of what may become a great river.
Supported by you.
A strong current born from our shared experiences. The greater our resilience, the bigger and more powerful this river becomes.
Because it’s drop by drop that the lake becomes BIG.
